Robotics System Engineer



Promise Robotics is a VC-backed startup transforming how buildings get made, with the aim of creating a more sustainable and affordable built environment. Promise Robotics brings together deep tech, advanced manufacturing, and construction under one roof to create complete robotic solutions for digital manufacturing and assembly of highly efficient and sustainable timber buildings.

We’re looking for a Robotics System Engineer to join our team and lead the development of core robotic manufacturing technologies at the Promise Robotics factory in Edmonton, Alberta.

  • Collaborate closely with the founding team to forward the vision of Promise Robotics
  • Own technical design, specifications, development and integration of industrial robotic systems
  • Evaluate and improve robotic manufacturing processes by working closely with a diverse technical team of builders, software developers, designers, engineers
  • Develop simulation, testing and analysis of robotic production systems
  • Coordinate and manage R&D projects in collaboration with internal and external teams
  • Schedule, track, and report on core product development
  • Support software team in troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of robotic hardware, sensors, drivers and software
  • Provide on-site project management
  • Maintain and promote a safe and professional environment with a high level of safety awareness and compliance

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • Bachelor/Graduate degree in Robotics, Industrial Automation, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Artificial Intelligence
  • Experience with sensory systems such as proximity sensors, rangefinders and vision systems
  • Skillful in back-end programming languages such as Python
  • Proficient in 3D modelling and simulation of industrial robotic systems, including kinematics and tooling
  • Willingness to participate in a variety of technical areas in both software and hardware as needed to solve complex problems and achieve business impact
  • Excellent management, analytical, problem solving, communication and organization skills
  • (Preferred) 4+ years of industry experience in leading, supervising or managing complex industrial robotics and system integration projects
  • (Preferred) Experience in integrating Kuka robots is a great asset
  • (Preferred) Experience with industrial low voltage electrical systems and automation systems (e.g. PLCs) is an asset
